Flemish Northern Renaissance Painter, ca.1525-1569 (born c. 1525, probably Breda, duchy of Brabant ?? died Sept. 5/9, 1569, Brussels) Greatest Netherlandish painter of the 16th century. Not much is known of his early life, but in 1551 he set off for Italy, where he produced his earliest signed painting, Landscape with Christ and the Apostles at the Sea of Tiberias (c. 1553). Returning to Flanders in 1555, he achieved some fame with a series of satirical, moralizing prints in the style of Hiëronymus Bosch, commissioned by an Antwerp engraver. He is best known for his paintings of Netherlandish proverbs, seasonal landscapes, and realistic views of peasant life and folklore, but he also took a novel approach to religious subject matter, portraying biblical events in panoramic scenes, often viewed from above. He had many important patrons; most of his paintings were commissioned by collectors. In addition to many drawings and engravings, about 40 authenticated paintings from his enormous output have survived. Rodolfo Amoedo
(born in Salvador, Bahia on December 11, 1857; died in Rio de Janeiro on May 31, 1941) was a Brazilian history painter. He began his career as an artist in 1873 as a student of Victor Meirelles. In 1878 he won the first prize at the Brazilian Academy, which allowed him to travel to Paris, where he lived from 1879 to 1887 studying at the École des Beaux Arts. He was a pupil of Alexandre Cabanel and also worked with Paul-Jacques-Aime Baudry. He was a professor and later director of the Brazilian Academy, renamed School of Fine Arts ou Escola Nacional de Belas Artes at the fall of the Brazilian Empire. His students include Eliseu Visconti. He died forgotten and so poor his friends had to help the widow pay for his funeral. His paintings still hang at the National Museum Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro.
Alexei Korzukhin
(1835-1894) was Russian painter. A Korzukhin 000.JPG Korzukhin was born in Yekaterinburg on March 23, 1835. In 1858 he began his studies in the St. Petersburg in the Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1860, Korzukhin won his first award for the painting his The Drunken Father. In 1864, he help found Petersburg Artel of Artists - the "Revolt of Fourteen". Korzukhin has received a rank of the artist of the First Degree for his painting Commemoration on a Rural Cemetery (1865). For The Return of the Father from Fair, he received a rank of the academician. In 1870, he became a founding member of the art group 'The Wanderers. In 1891 he painted The Lord's Supper for a cathedral in Riga. Korzukhin is perhaps most famous for his many portraits, each of which is characterized to have a subtle psychological depth. For this reason they are generally accepted as masterpieces of Russian portrait painting. Alexei Korzukhin died in St. Petersburg on October 30, 1894.
